Mike came from SQUIRM a local band that never toured but had international radio play and press. Mike disbanded SQUIRM and toured with ENCRUSTED a crust punk band that also got international radio and press. thats where Mike met Larry who played guitar in ENCRUSTED, but left after a drummer bailed out in Los Angeles. Mike who at this time despised drummers took the advice of a friend, Clay, who said "get a drum machine" FREAKFLAG started that night and it was always just a recording project that would consist of free form jams made up on the spot. Mike and Clay released a demo "SPEAKERCHUNK" then they got Larry who was in INITIAL DETONATION to join. They released "SOLAR ENGINE SWALLOWED BY THE SUN".A couple of years later, always recording in the wee hours of the morning they released the first full length CD "ELECTROMAGNETICHALLUCINATION" in 2001 which is currently selling worldwide and has been in several international zines.In 2002, to enhance the live sound the band took on two new players.Doug who plays drums,keyboards,and lots of other goodies,and Gene who plays bass,and sax,and other odds and ends.
