The Magic was formed from a group of studio musicians to record songs written by the team of Eric Hilgeford/Greg Martin with a primary focus of placing the songs with interested performers and/or labels for distribution. An early recording was submitted to a regional (Ohio,Michigan,Indiana,Kentucky) radio station songwriting contest. “My Surprise” won the contest and the Magic was requested to perform at the awards ceremony, turning The Magic into a performance band as well. The group quickly gained a modest amount of notoriety resulting in fairly active performance schedule. The Magic played primarily in the SW Ohio region enjoying shared billings with many national and international acts, such as 38 Special, The Outlaws, The Marshall Tucker Band and Foghat. Recent focus has shifted back to the groups initial intent, however they still maintain a light schedule of performing, either headlining at area venues or on occasion opening for other nationals as they tour the area. Of late that has consisted mostly of opening for The Peter Mayer Group ( the one from Jimmy Buffett fame, not the folk singer) when Peter tours with his own project in the area, a relationship we have grown to value a great deal.
The writing machine continues so you can look for a great deal of new material in the near future either on Broadjam or on our website: which will be fully operational in May 2007.
