Chris Shaffer is back, front and center with his first solo album, simply titled "Chris Shaffer." Chris is an electrifying performer and is known as one of the most popular singers to come out of the Midwest in the last ten years. He is an emotional songwriter and storyteller with a deep soulful voice that invokes comparisons to Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, and Lou Rawls.
After ten years and six CD's with The Why Store, and two underrated gems with Shaffer Street he has forged ahead on his own. With an unforgettable voice and commanding stage presence, he is ready to pursue his solo career. With The Why Store's Universal/MCA releases, Chris wrote such radio hits as "Lack of Water," "Father," and "Surround Me." "Lack of Water," the band's national break-out song in 1996, was featured on the band's self-titled, major label debut. The song catapulted the band's status by giving them a Top 20 album for the year at Triple-A radio, and a number one single at Triple-A radio.

Just Over You

Just Over You
(Shaffer, C.)

Everything’s weird and I don’t know why
Can’t seem to pull the colors out from the sky
I’m jaded, faded from loving you
I’m not happy, not mad, not sad
Just over you
Everything’s different cause the times have changed
From moment to moment we rearrange
I’m weary, teary eyed from loving you
I’m not happy, not mad, not sad
Just over you
Any way down it goes
Well I will like it
Any way down it goes
Well I will find it
Any way up it turns
Well I will burn it
Any way up it goes
Well I’ll deny it
Everything’s the same and I feel alright
Today’s the day we made and the sun will shine
I’m easy, breezy, not feeling blue
I’m not happy not mad, not sad
Just over you!

Chris Shaffer Biography

The song catapulted the band's status by giving them a Top 20 track at Rock Radio, a Top 20 album for the year at Triple-A radio, and a number one single at Triple-A radio. "Father," on the other hand, was the band's first MTV video.
With the help of roots guitar wizard Kenny Taylor (of the Blue Moon Boys), Rob Calder (of the Cutters) on bass, and Charlie Bushor (of The Why Store) on drums, he has created a new work filled with pain, honesty, and emotion. After the breakup of his band and marriage, Chris wrote a group of songs that stand up with any singer/songwriter today. Produced by Chris and Paul Mahern (punk legend and Mellencamp engineer) on old analog tape equipment, it was even mixed down to tape and mastered from that onto disc.
Taylor says, "Chris' songwriting has been growing since the Why Store days. This new album is his best work as a pure songwriter. THis is also the most organic record i've ever been a part of.. it's all in the mics and tape. It's all live other than a couple overdubs. The lead vocals and Chris's guitar are all live and most of the songs were first takes. The touchstones for this album were George Harrison's last album "Brainwashed", and Lucinda Williams' "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road." Both of them for guitar sounds and vibe, the latter for its naked honesty and emotion. Then again, with Paul's help, we found the missing link between Radiohead and Queen for one song. The guitars are live and on the electric heavy songs we got a Crazy Horse meets Television meets Led Zeppelin sound. The acoustic numbers are melodic and to the point, with subtle harmonies and Harrisonesque slide guitar."
Chris is known for his openness to his fans, the baring of his soul in his songs and reluctance to toot his own horn to the media. He prefers to let his songs speak for him.
Chris has said "The Why Store went through the whole rock and roll cliche of record label nightmares. Every single negative thing that could be done to a band by a label happened to us and we faced it, and either overcame it, became it or succumbed to it.. but, now, I believe there is nothing that can cross the table that i'm not prepared to deal with."
Chris has performed on bills with John Mellencamp, Train, Cracker, Ben Harper, Cowboy Mouth, Vertical Horizon, George Clinton's P-Funk All Stars, Pat Travers, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise, NRBQ, Southern Rock AllStars, Widespread Panic, Mickey Hart, Eddie Money, Lonesome Travelers, and The Samples.
