Beryl (a New Orleans native and Katrina survivor) was born to parents of modest means, but rich in moral values and faith. With music already a household item when she was born - her Dad writing songs, and Mom loving her piano and hymns -- at the age of 2, Beryl gave impromptu "command" performances at neighbors' houses, the compelling factors being her sharp memory and the ability to perform long and complicated songs. Her five children grown, three grandchildren (13-yr-old Harmony, 4-yr-old Logan + 6-mos-old Gabriel), a successful "first" career behind her, and having performed country, rock, jazz standards, + Dixieland jazz, Beryl is taking advantage of the opportunity for a "second" career embracing her lifetime love of music. Her personal music ministry encompasses weddings, funerals, baptisms, masses, and special church events; and, to date, she has released three CD's, two full-length and one single, and one music video. Press Info

A recent thank-you note, received following a funeral mass for which I sang, said simply, "Thank you for letting God use you..." That note, I believe, says it all. I began singing when I was 2 years old, and my parents would have me sing for neighbors. From a super in an opera to "Lady Soul" in my own rock band; then, during the 28 years with the guitar group at my parish church, my personal music ministry was born. This ministry has evolved over the past several years to include 3 Christian CD releases and a music video. I sing for weddings, baptisms, funerals, and masses, and enjoy using the slogan, "We who sing pray twice." God has blessed my music, and leads every step I make on this chosen path -- to glorify Him with the gift of my voice. My blessings include a wonderful husband, who shares my love of music, sings with me often, and plays percussion on two of my three CD releases; five wonderful children; and three grandchildren.

Bio

Music has been my lifelong love... maybe because my Dad, David Caruso, a songwriter, and my Mom, Leonie Flick Caruso, a schoolteacher who enjoyed playing piano and singing hymns, provided the encouragement of early dance and voice training to my sister Lee and me. At age 8, there were radio performances and children's TV programs/commercials; then the "Velveteens," a "doo-wop" group at John McDonogh High School, and performances with N.O.Recr.Dept. and local opera productions; guitar/piano lessons and my band "Beryl Hart & the Versatiles," and intermittent gigs in NOLA and California. All this, plus a full-time Fed.Govt. career while raising 5 children, and a "lifetime" of singing with the "Contemporaries" of St. Dominic Parish (my extended family). A childhood based on my parents' deep faith in God, a heritage of musical traditions, and the freedom of an early retirement (a downsizing "buy-out" in 1994) were instrumental in the evolution of my personal music ministry. My three CD's and music video reached finalist status in 2002 and 2005 United Catholic Music & Video Assn. competition. Sadly, Hurricane Katrina submerged our home in Lakeview in 15 ft.of salt water for nearly 3 wks. On Sept. 18, we docked a boat on our front porch, broke down the front door, and saw everything destroyed-- including photography and music business assets and equipment destroyed. We have now chosen to stay in Baton Rouge LA, where we relocated, since returning to our home in Lakeview was simply unaffordable. We are choir members at St. Jude the Apostle and I am continuing my organ lessons (begun in NOLA). Looking back, my husband Juan and I are grateful for our survival and the strength and resilience to renew our lives.
