Heywood is a musician with a wide variety of interests. As a guitarists he has performed with jazz artists such as Paul Horn (4x Grammy Award recipient), Phil Dwyer, Hugh Frazer (both Canadian Juno Award recipients).

His newest album, entitled "Believe It!," features a contemporary Smooth Jazz sound. A trademark of Heywood's writing and playing is the use of strong melodies sometimes reminiscent of Lee Ritnour.

As a composer and songwriter, he has written in many styles. His R/B song, "Touch Your Heart" (co-written by Juno Award recipient, Eddie Bullen) recieved a Certificate of Merit from Billboard Magazine.

In 1995 he was comissioned by the United Way to write, "Heart To Heart," a strong pop ballad.

In addition, his song, "The Prize," (pop) was signed by EMI Canada.

Besides songwriting, Heywood has written both orchestral pieces and choral pieces (He was comissioned to write the finale music for the 2001 Canada Summer Games)
