Joe was born in the wilds of Western Pennsylvania in a small town called Perryopolis. He became a fixture in the local Pittsburgh Punk/New Wave/Hardcore scenes in the early 80s, getting airplay on college stations & community radio. One day, in 1986, Joe packed up & moved to New York. He met Lach around that time & got turned onto the Antifolk scene (he is now cited as a pioneer in that genre). About a year later, he met downtown artist Nancy Kolbert & soon they had a daughter (Isabela -aka Izzy). Izzy is 17 now, has been on stage since age 6 (imusical theater) and is about to graduate from Laguardia HS (aka "Fame School") as a vocal major. Izzy & Joe have been playing a lot of shows in NYC with their band Bendik and packing them in with a monthly Saturday night residency (last Saturday of the month) at the (in)famous Sidewalk Cafe.
