Barb Cheron - Guitarist/Composer

With her combination of technical skills and soulful phrasing, Barb Cheron has been entertaining audiences for many years. Barb is equally comfortable playing jazz, blues, classical or pop. Prior to joining forces with John Jacobs, she was best known in music circles for her work with MZ Communication, an all female jazz ensemble and her popular duo with Marianne Flemming, as well as her solo classical/flamenco repertoire. A versatile performer, Cheron can be found captivating listeners in various venues, from intimate private parties to outdoor festivals and the club circuit.

Trained at the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music, Barb also studied with renowned jazz guitarists Roger Brotherhood, Cliff Frederiksen and Don Linke. In addition, she studied classical guitar with Professor Javier Calderon from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

A teacher as well as performer, Barb taught students of all ages at the former Eastwood School of Music. She continues to teach private lessons upon request.

“Cheron’s musical reach keeps growing…a truly interesting improviser. She moves easily from jazz to blues to ballads.” As a soloist, she’s well worth listening to. As an ensemble player…she’s gifted at interpreting and supporting the music, without overwhelming the singer. Go hear her if you can!”

- Tara Ayres (vocalist), Her Infinite Variety, WORT 89.9 FM, Madison , WI

“Barb Cheron is a dedicated guitarist and musician with a sensitive and fluid command of both classical and jazz guitar music.”

- Marianne Fleming (singer/songwriter), Recording Artist, Mermaid Records

“Barb Cheron is a guitarist definitely worth seeing. She has a great feel for the music she plays, whether it is traditional classical or a passionate rendering of a flamenco piece. She can seamlessly provide background music without overwhelming the room, but she can also command an audience’s attention in a concert venue with her style and charisma.”

- Edward Belt, principal violist, Northwest Symphony Orchestra, IL, Northwest Symphony Orchestra String Quartet
