In an industry where copycatting and contrivance is too often encouraged and true creativity and innovation is needed but not always rewarded, Jason Miles has stood his ground as a true musical visionary. From his groundbreaking synth programming on Miles Davis' 80s masterpieces Tutu, Music From Siesta and Amandla to his current partnership with DJ Logic and Falu in the pioneering global fusion group Global Noize, the Grammy Award winning New York native--dubbed by one insightful veteran journalist as the 'Quincy Jones of Contemporary Music'--has consistently brought the highest level of artistry to his multi-faceted recordings (as both producer and artist) and live performances.

Rio Wave, is a gorgeous melody it's a sublime song, beautifully, played and arranged. It's the sort of music one would like to hear in heaven!

Hi Jason,

I am thinking about getting "CRAZY WHEN HE'S NOT CALLING" completely re-recorded. I understand that Broadjam offer this service. Can I ask you whether you think that having this song professionally re-recorded by Broadjam would be of a sufficient standard for me to obtain a positive feedback from the music industry in the USA? or, do you think I should go outside Broadjam to get the song completely re-recorded? I would appreciate your feedback. I would also like to discuss the possibility (given your diary) of helping me marketing this song in the USA?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

David

Hi Jason, Thanks for the quick reply. I think I may have got my wires crossed! I think Broadjam offer a 're-mastering' service but not a complete re-recording of material.
I take on board your comment that you are mainly a music producer, keyboardist, arranger and not a marketing person. I wondered whether you thought getting my track completely re-recorded in the USA might be a better option? Could I kindly ask you what sort of 'ball-park' figure you think it would cost me to get "Crazy When He's Not Calling" professionally re-recorded from scratch by really good musicians in the USA? I'm asking because I have never visited the USA! (I would love to travel there soon!)
I appreciate you answering my comments.
Thank you
Kind regards,
Dave Austin

I will listen to the track again-I liked the song and would be interested in producing it-I only use the very best musicians and engineers.I have all different prices for profuctions depending on the production-You should honestly let me know how much you want to spend on the track and then I can tell you where we are at

I don't think you need a re record-I think a remix would be good-I think it can sound more dynamic and have a shot in the market place-I know someone who could mix the daylights out of this-No need to re record-It is all there

OK. I have to explain that I am not a rich man! Therefore I don't have a big budget, it sounds like the when you mention using only the 'best musicians' might mean that I would need to win the lottery for me to be able to afford getting it 'professionally re-recorded by your good self. I am aware that you are a professional person I understand that, and therefore it is only reasonable that you are paid a proper rate which is in line with your experience. Can you let me know what range (specifically) you mean by "all different prices" so I am aware of how much I have to find to get the ball rolling?

It might be easier for you to e-mail rather than having to talk through my 'broadjam' message boxes?

My e-mail is info@dgamusic.co.uk

Hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

David

Hi Jason,
I hope that my request has not put you off helping me? Apologies for my comment about having to win the 'lottery'l for me to be able to afford getting my song re-recorded! I am also a writer of ironic, satirical humourous type songs! It's my English sense of humour please forgive me! To be totally honest I may be trying to reach for 'the stars' in trying to enlist someone of your calibre to help me get this song to come alive. Paraphrasing your review.

If there was any way that I could afford to get the song completely re-corded I would be most grateful to you for your kind help?

If you would still like to help, can I ask you to hear my version of "Crazy When She's Not Calling!". The reason is that the 'latin' feel is much stronger I think in my version. I admit I am not really a great musician at all, but it might give you an idea of whether you think the track would be better sang by a woman and/or a man?

I do hope that I can find a way of persuading you to help me.

Hope to catch up soon.

Kind regards,

David

Thanks for the helpful review; being honest, your observations are insightful and constructive. I know you are right! The problem is (at the moment) I do not have the resources to fund a complete re-recording by great musicians! 5 years ago I was diagnosed with tumours in both ears then had 14 hours of operations on both ears, this means I am now profoundly deaf in my 'RIGHT' ear and only about 50% in my LEFT. Hearing lose not caused by listening to music! So having to pay (probably around £2,000) for this track to be re-recorded by really good musicians is way out of my pocket at the moment! Have just written a jingle for a big supermarket in the UK called Sainsburys. Trying to get them to introduce me to their 'Advertising Agency' whom have their own Library Music in-house. Also waiting to hear from a music publisher called Laopard Publishing about some songs I have had completely re-recorded in to dance tracks for the USA! Should hear if Leopard are going to sign me for about 3 - 4 songs soon. When have money I will ask if you can review an instrumental jazz chord progression I have written on guitar called LAZY DAY IN PARIS! + BOSSA BEACH!
