Cover Derivative Derivativitating Jay Derivativitating Jay Listening Link: https://starburstrecords.bandcamp.com/album/jay-derivativitating-jay We all know what a cover song is. This is when an artist records a new version of a previously released song using the same melody and lyrics, but in a new and interesting way. Alternatively, a Derivative version is when an artist completely re-imagines a previously released song in a whole new, bold and creative way without necessarily using the same melody and lyrics. This is only legally allowed with the express written consent of the original artist/songwriter/copyright owner. I have taken 10 of my favorite previously written, produced & released songs and completely reimagined them using what is one of the hottest genres in music today called Progressive R&B. I call this album "Jay Derivativitating Jay". It was my brother Mark who taught me that we can make up whole new words, and I have decided to call the activity of writing and producing a derivative version of a song the act of "Derivativitating". In the Grammys, here is how a Progressive R&B Album is defined: This Category recognizes excellence in albums of progressive R&B vocal tracks. This Category is intended for artists whose music is rooted in many of the elements of R&B but has a more progressive sound that may include elements such as hip-hop, rap, pop, dance, and electronic music. This category is differentiated from R&B and/or other Traditional R&B by an emphasis on experimentation and innovation, often through unconventional song structures, dynamic production techniques, and multi-genre influences that challenge traditional R&B conventions. I have released my brand new album today, July 31 on Bandcamp, and will released it on all the usual music streaming platforms very soon. Hope you enjoy listening!
