About Serge Nikol
As a child in Kosovo, Serge Nikol (born: Srdjan Nikolic) was fed a steady diet of American and European music from the 1950's and '60s.
"When I was growing up, my father used to tape music off the radio because we didn't have records or anything like that," remembers Nikol. "The tapes would be made randomly, so there was Ray Charles, then there was some ethnic music, then there was The Beatles...Jacques Brel...it was a whole mix."
This goes a long way towards explaining Nikol's diverse musical tastes and influences. On his debut EP Dreamin', the musician combines elements of blues, rock, pop, bossa nova and folk.
His vocals are controlled and authentic, often bringing to mind the stylings of a young Elton John. Nikol hopes to connect with his audience on a variety of levels. "I want them to get the same feeling that I used to get when I listened to songs when I was a kid."
A self-taught musician, Nikol received his first guitar at the age of six and has never looked back, honing his performance skills during intense residencies in Toronto clubs.
Although he's studied acting and has worked in TV shows ("Canada-Russia '72") including a brief stint as a movie actor (he had a role in the Mark Wahlberg vehicle "Max Payne") music is his one true love.
Since Nikol is able to perform in eight languages and has lived in a variety of countries (including Montenegro, Russia and Canada), it's no surprise that Dreamin' has such an effortlessly international feel.
