Paul got a guitar talked to Dec they formed Midas thats the basic start of this story.Midas music has been described by people as beautiful, happy, sad but Paul(Midas composer) thinks that when his friend says it is sophisticated sad songs that, that was at least one way to describe the music and its not a bad thing to say so its fine. When Midas Paul Melia(guitar, piano, vocals) declan laing(bass) play live they consist of three other and talented people Darren Hatch(bg vocals, keyboard and orchestral percussion) Steven Battle(Drums)Nial Conway(keyboards, backin vocals abd weird sounds).Midas recently just finished recording an Ep called Endorphins which is in the mixing stage as we speak with uber cool Ben Rawlins of cool band Saso.In describing the Ep Dec says its sounds kick ass and Paul says it hits the right colours. So the launch of the ep shall be in a month or so up in Dublin so keep your eyes and ears open.Nuff said for now...

Midas Interview

Its early 12 midday where I am sitting looking out at the beautiful L.A sunshine and he is across the
pond sitting looking out at the rain of Ireland. We arrange to do the interview on Skype but after his
connection keeps cutting off we press on in instant message terms.Tea at the ready for the interview
with Paul Melia of "Midas" for J.H online music site. The Test Begins

J:Hello!How are you?
P:Im good actually a bit cold if Im being honest the house is freezing but i got some tea so ok.
J:Firstly I really enjoyed the Ep after the demos I recieved awhile ago it is great the way it turned out.
P:Thank you glad you liked it.
J:So what is the plan for it?When is it being released? What is the plan?
P:Well I think I will release it myself in May I hope after it is mastered and artwork completed, but
I think before putting it out see what the labels can do for us as it is better in terms of more people
hearing it which is the best thing for Midas.
J:The music is very different to what is popular in charts,so is there a big chance of gettin commerical
acceptance?
P:What do you think?
J:To be honest it is very catchy but still you have to admit it is not what is sweeping the charts in modern
music. That being said it is better and more unique than all the music that is just copy cat bands as I see
it.
P:Yes I agree I try to music with the colours that feel right for the song and make it a bit different like for
the sake to be different but to challange myself and push myself to be a better and greater composer.I
think every artist should do the same and push themselves make very album a new sound and a better
one at that i guess.
J:So what do think of the music popular now?Any thoughts on all the guitar bands?
P:I dont really listen or care what they do,Im too much focused on what Im doing you know?
J:Ya thats a very playing it cool answer!
P:Ya I know dont wanna be beaten up by all there guitars(laugh)
J:(Laugh)Them Les Pauls can hurt alot.
P:I know I recoreded with of them heavy as hell!!
J:What artists or bands do you listen to or have an affect on what you do in music?
P:Van Dyke Parks,Brian Wilson(Beach Boys),I think Daniel Johns is a great talent.Lately being
listening to alot of japanesse bands like Pizzicato Five and I like alot of 1940s kinda Gershwin stuff.
Really I listen to every kinda type of music apart the obvious crap stuff.
J:I can really hear alot of blends of different types of music on the Ep.on Miss you the outro is classical
influenced would I be corrent in saying that?
P:Ya in a movie hollywood sence you the old style movies?
J:Yes I can see a bit of that.So any plans for an album?
P:Well hopefully all depends on what happens with the Ep, but it will happen just hopefully sooner than
later.
J:I have to ask you how do you play this live?Have you got an orchestra in the back(laugh)?
P:Yes the orchestra comes in case I carry(laugh).
J:I had a feeling I seen one on ebay(laugh)
P:To answer your qusetion in a proper way,we have a five piece band of really cool people and good
musicans. Most of the arrangements I teach everyone there parts but for stuff like Miss you outro
we have it backing trackd and play over it as there would be no way to do it we two keyboard players.
J:So its alot of work to get the right sound I would imagine?
P:Yes very much we more rock out live more so would be on record because its the energy with people
and playing all together.
J:Well thank you for your time and good luck with the Ep its sounds fantastic!!
P:Whats our fav song off it?
J:Im a sucker for a love song so I would say "Shelter from My Mind".
P:Its my mothers favourite too(laugh).
J:Goodbye from across the Pond.
P:Thanks goodbye

"Endorphins" should be out sometime in May(Check www.myspace.com/midasmusic for info)
