Hi Patrick a while ago you reviewed my song `Dominoes' and suggested I remove the percussion track. I thought you might be interested to know that I actually went ahead and followed your suggestion (I was always in two minds about that part anyway and your helpful comment spurred me to think about it more). If you get a chance to have another listen, I'd be interested to know what you think of it now.

Thank you for your review on "Listen To Your Heart". The song was written with the 1930's era in mind. I have to disagree with you on the lyrics though, they are clever and a few industry professionals agree with me. It is being considered for a TV show. Appreciate your input!

Patrick thanks so much for your review of 'here I go again' ......we play music for the fun of it and to know you liked the song is great.....i'll let hank know.....and then he'll forget.......in early june of 2012 hank had a very bad stroke...we didn't think he was going to make it or atleast play guitar again...after a stay in the hospital, rehabilitation and a long stay in a group home to recover....he had a miraculous recovery....by mid November of 2012 he was able to leave the group home and move in with his girlfriend...this song is the first time in the woodshed after all of that....while recording I looked at the recorder and saw we were at 6:30...hank's not good with time now so I figured it was time to cut the song off...I gave him the signal and we began to end it....like I said i'll let him know...keep it fun..cheers stu

Thanks for your mostly favorable review of our tune Song of Freedom. Since my collaborator wrote most of the lyrics and I wrote the melody, I don't take offense....guess it's different strokes. All of his lyrics are pretty celebrial. He's a poet. It's an anthem. Glad you liked the arrangement

Well lots of bands go put their music on tunecore. That is a great stage to promote from. You can get it on iTunes, spotify, control what countries you want your record to be available in and things of that nature. That would be my first move. Good luck bro!!!

TFS, Thanks for your nice comment. More improvements are on their way....Here is my review of Bite Me.

One of the most interesting songs I've heard in a while. Obviously, the writer is pissed off at a friend and has decided to vent in song.

A great groove with lots of breaks, this is very hard to do so hats off to the arranger of this. Great work. When I first heard this it reminded of an 80s sitcom. After I listened closely a few times, my opinion changed. This is one of the best written songs and best productions I have heard in a while.

Great harmonies at 1:26, 2:21 and numerous places throughout the song. Instrumentation is excellent, especially the drum work. Little things like the keyboard slide at 1:20 are well done. The mix is near perfect.

Vocal phrasing and pitch are right on. Little things like stretching to his falsetto at 19 seconds for just a second or two and going a little nasally at 29 seconds make this very unique. Lots of quirky innate feeling went into this vocal performance. My guess is this singer has done a lot of recording. If he hasn't, he is a natural.

From a lyric perspective, it's to the point. "Bite me, you suck a lot" is the hook and they clearly have nailed it. Every line in the verses support the hook and overall it's a pretty good lyric. If I have to be critical at all, I would say the lines in the chorus(after the first one) aren't quite as strong as the verses. Maybe slight tweaking here, but no major changes are necessary because the first line of the chorus really carries it. Although there are no offensive words in the lyric, I'm not sure it will get radio play because of the nature...but I'm not sure the writer cares.

I could go on and on about this. But simply, it's well written, with a great arrangement, excellent instrumentation and a near perfect mix. There is not much more to say other than I will listen to your entire list this afternoon. I know you've been on Bjam for awhile, thanks so much for being a member.

Hi Patrick,

Hey, thanks for the nice review of my song, "Paradise".
Yes, it is kind of a weird song, but I wrote it back in the early 1970's when I was touring and dating an actress in LA. Our schedules could never be matched up.... even though when we did get time together, we had a lot of fun....in her place in Malibu.

I did record a solo version and it was on my second album, "Waving Prairie".
The version you heard is a updated version.

It is a tough song to sing because of the range it covers. But, it has a haunting melody that I'd love to hear sung by someone who can really sing.

Thanks, again....

Hate to disappoint you.... But I have penned around 2000 songs in my years of writing. My first copyright was for a song I wrote when I was 14...... Had several years where I was writing 2 songs a week.... which I can still do. I have access to a deep well of inspiration....and I LOVE writing songs.... What an interesting art form. Edgar Allen Poe once said that the ability to write a song and combine words with music is the highest art form. I happen to agree...

Thanks for the kind words ... coming from you they hold some real weight...

Chet, I agree with you and Poe. When I write the lyrics and I get a great melody, vocalist and instrumentation, the feeling that I get is a wow feeling; nothing better than that. I'm very impressed with your musical talents. Continue success to you. Sylvia

Both of you, Chet and Sylvia, are in a special league. I enjoy seeing the sucess each of you garner. Lots of placements between you 2 alone here at BroadJam.

For me and song crafting, the biggest moment isn't hearing a 'finished product' but often when i come up with that 'hook' . That 'wow' moment when you know something good is happening.

Then I know I'm 'hooked' (pun intended).

Cheers

From someone who has basically no music talent and no chance of ever succeding at actually being known in this art I'll have to agree with both of you here.

I've been writing songs since basically the second I learned a chord when I was fifteen and haven't stopped since, and there is no greater feeling than knowing you got out what was on your mind and in your heart. I don't really care about all that hook stuff or whatever, but yes when you find a melody that is meaningful in your heart and you are able to put along words that are somehow equally as meaningful and you are able to sing it without a strained voice, now thats some stuff

Agree that Chet and Sylvia are wonders. Glad to see Steve added to that "special league." When I first began on Broadjam a couple years ago, I reviewed a few songs and then came to a review of a song that was enormously impressive in theme, structure, sound and everything else that matters. It was downright inspiring. After the review I saw that it was Steve's song. Now, every time I run across Steve here, that one review flashes through my mind. I recall that moment and thinking "that's how it should be done."

Wow, 2000 songs! That's the way to go, just keep writing.
I've heard an artist say (can't remember who, but was in a docu. ) that (if lucky) 1 out of 10 ideas is a good one....
I've written a lot of songs and compositions myself and many i've not presented on BJ. it's more like 20% that's on my BJ page.... many (bad) ideas are stowed away. sometimes I listen to them and hope that I can eloborate on an idea... but most of the times I stow them even further away :P Practice makes perfect.... I hope that one day I can place myself in that special league too!
then again, every songwriter is special in his/her own way ;)

Back when I was touring....for 12 years... 1969-1981... I spent all my time writing. Wrote many songs that didn't gel or work. I learned that in many cases I had to write something just to get it out of my head... Oddly enough, a good song was lurking behind it. I have been a longtime journal keeper and have almost 50 years of songs, titles, sketches, poems....whatever jumped out at me... Written down. Oddly enough, as you get older.... You might find you become more prolific.

Anyway, I really enjoy my Broadjam friends.

PS.... Just posted a fun song I write back in 1964...called "You Made Me Cry".... Very 60's Beatle-ish.
Check it out and tell me if you like it...

It would be a great honor if some of you fine musicians listened to a song from my first album which is currently unreleased, 12 tracks. The track is called "goodbye is not an ending". the other songs on my website were just unfinished, half efforted tracks I recorded with my digital recorder to get reviewers opinions before finishing. But this is with a band, from my first album ever and it would mean so much if one of you great song writers took a listen, the greatest honor in all honesty. Thanks so much!

Well, being an insatiable and ever-curious creative cat... I have spent a lot of time studying the mental aspects of the creative process.... So, I am always open to new ideas and processes. I've also learned to get out of the way... and let the Muses come in and abide with me. Dang, sometimes they even want to jitterbug.

Oh, yeah, check out my new song, "Million Dollar Sandbox".... It t'will make you smile.

Oh, and thanks for making Broadjam such a great place to grow, share....and meditate.

nice song. this is one of those songs that work great in bars and bigger sheds, getting the crowd to sing along and enjoy a nice beer in good company. it's got loads of character! if and when i go to the states, this tune in that bar in that crowd would be something i don't want to miss out on!
