Story Behind The Song
After having dinner with a new friend in New York City last summer, I decided to write this song. It was the first time that either one of us was able to open up about the similar feelings and experiences that we shared on our wedding days.
Song Description
This is a song about a woman who knew without any doubt that her marriage was wrong. It was a marriage based on everyone else's expectations. In carrying out the wedding, there is the constant anguish of the mental and emotional pain of Pretending she is happily married.

Lyrics
PRETENDING
VERSE
Childhood sweethearts, hometown heroes
Everyone thought they knew
We'd settle down have kids one day
What was I gonna do?
VERSE
I remember my wedding day
How I cried inside
Knowing it's wrong, walking the aisle
All of my bridesmaids in wine
Oo-o-o-o........ baby
CHORUS
I'm Pretending, I'm in love with you
Pretending, we both know it ain't true
Ah-h-h-h, Pretending
Na-na-na, Na-na-na, Na-na-na, Na-na-na-na-na-na
VERSE
Over-time it didn't work out
We just drifted apart
I started seeing somebody else
But not seeing the pain in your heart
Oo-o-o-o........
CHORUS
'Cause I've been Pretending
I'm in love with you
Pretending, we both know it ain't true
BRIDGE
Loving you, it's all a game that's in my mind
Loving you, I was the one whose heart slowly died
By Pretending
INSTRUMENTAL
CHORUS
I'm Pretending, I know love can't be true
Pretending, I know inside you know too
I'm Pretending
Na-na-na, Na-na-na, Na-na-na, Na-na-na
Na-na-na, Na-na-na-na-na-na
Pretending, Pretending, Pretending
