I write songs which I perform myself by recording the musical accompaniment on a cd then singing and playing the solos on the trombone. It was a question of practicality. I want to perform. These songs are in a variety of styles. I began by writing them in groups of 11 which I called Popcycles, based on the idea of the songcycle. I like presenting songs in sequences, like a ballad, a disco song, a country song. I find that they reflect off each other to create a feeling I like. Like an open space where anything could come to pass. For me music is a way to present a space where one can exist for awhile. I find that whether I write songs or more extended pieces this idea is always in my mind. Performing the songs adds another element, which is theater. This seems to just occur spontaneously. ____ Voilà...
