How'd I get here?
The Beatles.
How many musicians were kicked into overdrive by the Flaming Pie Quartet? I know I was. My grandfather was able to pick up any instrument - and instrument at all - and play it, with no training whatsoever. I've inherited that ability; but had it not been for the Fab Four, who knows if it would ever have surfaced?
I've been in many bands over the years, but have always returned - since around 1965 - to doing it all myself. I started with a Telefunken Reel-to-reel 4-track. In a way I wish I still had it. My styles vary from hard rock to classical to New Age and anything in between. I write to express moods, emotion, feeling; so the "genre" depends on what exactly I'm expressing.
In 1999 My wife and I produced, engineered and performed on a CD called "Native American Meditations". The opening song, "Woman's Honoring Song" is traditionally sung only to a hand drum. I tuned my keyboard to the singer's voice and just played what I heard. That's where the music came from.
Two hundred hours of audio editing; the best compliment I received on that portion was, "It doesn't sound like it".
I am a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Producer's and Engineering wing.
Like I said, I do it all myself.
