Story Behind The Song
This was originally called "The Acceptance Song." I wrote it in an hour in law school when I was having a fight with my girlfriend (a relationship that did, in fact, go by the wayside). I think the song would also be good as a duet and have considered re-recording it that way.
Song Description
"I can't change you, I can't change me, even though your love is something worth changing for." If you enter a relationship with the thought that you are going to change the other person, you will in all likelihood fail. This song paints a picture of acceptance of that fact at the end of the relationship.

Lyrics
CHANGE
Can?t do nothing to change the weather
and I sure can?t change your mind
or what you see in me.
And it don?t make it any better
that I know I can?t change the world
and I can?t part the sea.
Some things are just out of my reach
like the peach at the top of the tree
and your love.
Sittin? in this chair just thinkin?
about what I cannot change
about you and me.
In a perfect world we?d be together
but my world isn?t perfect now
and it never will be.
?Cause some things just don?t happen to me
like winning the lottery
and your love.
I see you look at me and my heart drops through the floor.
I can?t change you, I can?t change me
Even though your love is something worth changing for.
These long, hot summer days just get me thinkin?
about those long, hot summer nights
when you were here.
You packed my world up in your suitcase
and you walked right out the door
and you made it clear.
There?s just some things I?ll never change.
Ain?t it strange how a memory fades
when you?re gone.
Can?t do nothing about the weather
and I sure can?t change your mind.
