Story Behind The Song
This was written in a town in SW Michigan which is the band's namesake: "Union Pier". It just describes some of the sights and things experience while being there on vacation one year. I was the actual "Sonny"; and although I do not sail, I enjoy watching

Lyrics
Sonny's got a sailboat, keeps it in the bay;
people are watching him with it every day
Never going home, never going back;
doesn't need a suitcase 'cause he doesn't need to pack
Well, Sonny's got a sailboat, Sonny wants to sail away
I'd give it all up, just to be here every day;
never go to work again, learning how to play
Firefly flies in the hundred acre wood;
she would try to catch 'em if she though she only could
Well, Sonny's got a sailboat, Sonny wants to sail away
Like children in the forest,
like fish out in the sea;
maybe they'll ignore us, and not come after me
(musical break)
Like children in the forest,
like fish out in the sea;
maybe they'll ignore us, and not come after me
Sonny's got a sailboat, keeps it in the bay;
people are wishing they were him every day
Singing with the boys and the girls on Sunday night,
looking for my love in the misty moonlight
Well, Sonny's got a sailboat, Sonny wants to sail away
Sonny's got a sailboat,
Sonny's got a sailboat,
Sonny's got a sailboat,
Oh Sonny's got a sailboat, Sonny wants to sail away
