Lyrics
There was a rich man
Who lived foolishly
He wore purple
No finer clothes
In all of the land
A poor man named Lazarus
Was laid at his gate
All covered with soars
And longing to eat
The crumbs off his floors
And when it came about
As Lazarus passed away
The angels carried him off
In Father Abraham?s arms he lays
The rich man dies
And is buried and in hell
He opens his eyes
He cries Father Abraham
Have mercy on me
Send Lazarus with a drop of water
To cool my tongue
For I am in anguish
In these flames
But Abraham says child
Remember in your life
You had the good things
While Lazarus the bad
And besides all this
There?s this chasm fixed between us
And even if I wanted to
Neither you or I could get to the other
He cries out father Abraham
I have five brothers at home
Send Lazarus to warn them
Lest they come to this place
Of torment and anguish
Abraham says rich men
Well they have Moses
And all of the prophets
So let them warn them
Again he cries oh no! Father Abraham
If someone comes from the dead
then they would repent
but Abraham says to him
If they do not listen to
Moses and the prophets
Neither will they be persuaded
When someone rises from the dead
