Murphy?s Wake
Now Murphy was the finest man that you have ever seen
He always stood his proudest in Wearing of the Green
He was known the whole world over by every lad & lass
So let?s all toast him here tonight with a raising of
the glass
Chorus
Hey don diddle derry didey-oh
The music we could make
I feel alright; I could play all night
Here at Murphy?s wake
Just about ten years ago, Murphy got the flu
Lying in bed all feverish was all that he could do
His wife she waited hand and foot till she was all dog
tired
But in spite of all her efforts, poor Murphy had
expired
Chorus
So Murphy, being an Irishman,
a big wake had been planned
Folks gathered there to praise him from all across the
land
The beer flowed like a river; the music it flowed too
And Murphy in his casket, he held a Guiness too
Chorus
Next morning at the funeral Mass, not an eye was dry
The bishop led the sermon; praised Murphy to the sky
His brothers carried the coffin between some pillars
tall
The pipers started piping, playing Danny Boy for all
Chorus
But as they passed one pillar, the coffin brushed the
stone
And from within the casket, the mourners heard a moan
They quick set down the coffin; soon the lid was pried
A bigger party followed ?cause Murphy was ALIVE!
Chorus
Now Murphy passed away last week
after living ten years more
His viewing and his funeral, even grander than before
But as they toted Murphy out after the final prayer
Mrs. Murphy shouted,
?Watch out for that pillar over there!?
Chorus
