Song insight:
The little brother of my best friend of 15 years is a Marine who was in combat in Iraq. Listening to his stories had a great impact on me. When I sat down to write "This Life," I thought of all the soldiers who are currently overseas putting their lives on the line every day. Though I can only imagine what life is like for those serving in Iraq, in my new song, I have attempted to capture the feelings of loneliness, fear and frustration that even the bravest of soldiers (I consider my best friend's little brother to be one of them) and their families may feel from time to time.
VERSE 1:
ALL THE THINGS I?VE SEEN,
I?D RATHER NOT SAY
I WANNA GO HOME,
I WANNA GO HOME
CHORUS 1:
I WANT TO SEE YOUR FACE,
THIS PICTURE ON THE WALL
IT?S DRIVING ME INSANE,
THIS AIN?T NO LIFE AT ALL,
AIN?T NO LIFE AT ALL
VERSE 2:
ONLY TWENTY YEARS OLD,
I?M SO TIRED
IT SEEMS I?VE NOTHING LEFT,
FOR EVERYTHING I?VE WANTED
CHORUS 2:
WHAT ABOUT ALL I DESIRE
WHAT ABOUT MY LITTLE GIRL
GROWING UP WITHOUT HER FATHER
THIS AIN?T NO LIFE AT ALL, AIN?T NO LIFE AT ALL
VERSE 3:
I LOST MY BEST FRIEND
AS HE STOOD IN A SNIPER?S LINE
AND NOW HIS RACK IS EMPTY
TONIGHT I HOPE I SLEEP IN MINE
CHORUS 3:
OH MY GOD, I AM SCARED AS HELL
I LIE AWAKE AND ALONE
IT WAS YOU THAT BROUGHT ME HERE
IT?S TIME TO BRING ME HOME
IT?S TIME TO BRING ME HOME.
