Story Behind The Song
I was hanging with Lawrence Santiago, lead singer of American Popular, a band I managed in NY, and I started to play the guitar part on the acoustic guitar. Lawrence was on the verge of breaking up with his girlfriend and he immediately started to write and sing these beautiful lyrics. It was raw honest emotion, from the heart, what he was feeling at the time.
Song Description
You know the point at the end of a relationship when you've given it everything you have and it just isn't enough. You can't even communicate to each other. Whatever you say makes things worse and you know how much you're hurting each other. This is that story. A guy watching his girlfriend sleeping and saying all the things to her that he can't seem to say when she's awake. It's about that sad point where you know it's over and there's nothing you can do about it. You've just got to cut it loose and move on.

Lyrics
VERSE
When guilt is killing me
You pretend that you're asleep
I don't have the heart to mend
These wounds I cannot treat
When you're awake
CHORUS
You lay there
Resting on your conscience
I know you
But I didn't know the rage in you
We want this
The more we want
The more we hurt
And I know you hurt
VERSE
Your eyes are fluttering
You toss and turn and dream
These words are lost on you
My love is circling around you
CHORUS
INSTRUMENTAL
CHORUS
TAG
And I know you hurt
