I'm Homeward Bound

Story Behind The Song

We have today. We may not have tomorrow. So take take today to prepare for tomorrow. Change your life. Spend time with your wife, your family, and your friends. I wrote this song from the deceased view point. What would he say to his love ones attending the funeral. I wrote this song for a deacons funeral. I've sang this song in many funerals since. It's one of the most touching songs I've written. Finished the song in the summer of 1978 when I was 17 years old.

©2003 Michael Thomas

In Philipians 1:21 Paul said, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
This song is what the deceased might say to us here today.
Verse 1
All of you down there you don't know what your missing
The eternal wait of glory is far beyond all comparison
Remember what Paul said, "For me to live is Christ,
And to die is gain"
I'm homeward bound, Oh what a joy it is
I'm finally seeing Him face to face
I see my Lord, He is waiting for me
With arms wide open, I can feel His embrace
Verse 2
Please understand I know that you miss me.
I hear you crying cause you no longer see me
Take it from someone who knows, keep your heart right with God
Cause then someday, you can come and visit me.
