THERE WAS A TIME. On the dirty side of the Queen City somewhere south on Ohio Street there?s a girl I knew who?s busy burning all her old memories. The pictures that she took they were so that they would make you think of things you otherwise would never have thought of, but now you?re glad you did. And there was a time when I was part of it all, our bodies would mix as we would fall asleep and struggle to wake, make it to work in the morning. But then I was stolen away on a breeze, a mighty wind you experience in dreams, and it whispered that it would let me fly if I could just escape so I forgot about her I only thought of one thing?how could I break through this fucking ceiling that had me pinned down, trapped in my own mediocrity. There was a time when I would force myself to cry, write songs and poems all about the breaking of her and the evil acts that I committed. They were to condone, no I mean to condole myself for all that I had done, but when I reread them one last time I swear that I heard someone say, ?Every word you write when read the wrong way sounds contrived. Why even try? Why even try?? Why even try to grab on to this dodging bliss that used to haunt me from my bed now it haunts me from the shore of the other side of a great big sea that I?m too afraid to swim in anymore. And there was a time when I was confidence, I never thought that dirty river would cease to be a welcome homecoming to me. But now I feel like giving up. I?ll run away to Central America where I know I won?t understand a word, so I?ll just assume they?re all saying something good.
