Story Behind The Song
When we were writing musical theater shows for kids, Brian was the pianist on the shows. He was a lovely human being. He died in a motorcycle accident. When we got the letter telling us about it, we were heartbroken and wrote this song. We cried while we were writing it. It still makes us cry.
Song Description
It's a duet that looks at the life of someone who passed away and tries to make sense of it. In the end, the only way to make sense of it is to write a song and say goodbye.

Lyrics
I heard he slipped away
His dreams got in the way
I heard that he flew into the blue and the grey
His spirit took sail
I found out in the mail
He knew all along we are all strong and frail
So goodbye to the man, goodbye to the name
We hold onto the heart, it's the part that remains
In the music he played and made with his hands
So goodbye to the name and the man
Say goodbye to the name and the man
You were a light
You shined so bright
You shine on us still making sure we'll be alright
We'll all move along
To the sound of your song
Songs are a way that you can say so long
So goodbye to the man, goodbye to the name
We hold onto the heart, it's the part that remains
In the music he played and made with his hands
So goodbye to the name and the man
So goodbye to the husband, the father and friend
Though you're gone to the morning, your day will never end
We will cry, we'll remember, we will do what we can
So goodbye to the name and the man
Say goodbye to the name and the man
