Fountainhead

Story Behind The Song

Most of my songs tell a story, In Fountainhead, I decided to just let the lines come as I was inspired (by the Muse), regardless of what sense they made or didn't make.

Song Description

Fountainhead personifies the Muse as a flawed human being, both part of the psyche of the songwriter and an independent force that flows through all of us, but loves only some of us when we are open to it.

Lyrics

Your love flows from the center of a place I barely dream of,
Your acolytes retreat into the night.
And I alone among them know the burden that you carry
I alone among them know your fright.

Your smile is the armour that you wear when you feel lonely,
Your eyes reveal the measure of your plight.
And I alone will tell you that your countenance is only
A defense against the cold and empty night.

Take me down to the water,
Float me far away from the shore
Tell me secrets of life and of love that I've never
Known before.

You never mention Jesus when you talk about salvation,
You left all that behind with no complaints.
You speak instead of mercy, showing no appreciation
For the line between the sinners and the saints.

Take me back to the mountain,
To the fountainhead of my dreams.
Let me fly away on your sacred words to a heart
That love redeems.
