The Flicky Flacky Song

Story Behind The Song

It amazes me how young children understand nonsense words in the context of a story. I?ve heard children retell this Dr. Seuss-like story in their own words, understanding its message of cooperation.

Song Description

The silly song uses numerous made-up words to tell a story about a group of people who need to co-operate to survive. Fortunately, they put their heads together and solve the problem before it's too late.

Lyrics

The Flicky Flacky Song
Way down yonder where the Flicky Flacky grows
And the Tumba Pumba people blow out rabbits through their noses
The king of Tumba Pumba called a meeting and he cried
?In spite of good intentions all the Flicky Flacky died!?

When the Tumba Pumbas heard that all the Flicky Flacky died
They sat down in a circle and they hung their heads and sighed
?Without our Flicky Flacky, Weekie Beekies will go home
And without the Weekie Beekies there?ll be NO MORE ZOAM!?

So the Tumba Pumbas put their heads together and they tried
To understand why all their healthy Flicky Flacky died
They asked the Great Garankies and the Heppa Peppas, too
But not a Great Garankie nor a Heppa Peppa knew.

So the Weekie Beekies packed their bags and started to go home
And the Tumba Pumbas knew that very soon there?d be no zoam
Tumba Pumbas need their zoam as much as they need air
So they panicked and they plucked out all their Tumba Pumba hair!

Then the king of Tumba Pumba took the brankle by the brink
And he ordered all the Weekie Beekies back to help him think
The Tumba Pumbas and the Weekie Beekies worked as one
And they realized Flicky Flacky needed lots more sun!

So they weeded and they trimmed the place where Flicky Flacky grew
So that all the Flicky Flacky would have a better view
The Weekie Beekies and the Tumba Pumbas watched in wait
And sure enough the Flicky Flacky grew just great!

Way down yonder where the Flicky Flacky grows
And the Tumba Pumba people blow out rabbits through their noses
The king of Tumba Pumba is a hero to them all
And the Flicky Flacky soak up sun and grow up tall!
