So I Can Love Her

Story Behind The Song

Back a few years ago I went in the hospital for a simple procedure and almost died. Something went wrong and what was supposed to be an hour visit ended up being weeks in intensive care and really not knowing if I was going to make it! My wife Sheri was by my side and took care of me for months afterwards bringing me back to health. Seeing her their next to me and knowing how much she loved me was my saving grace because I had to make it back home to her and prayed for more time with the love of my life! I am still here thanks to the power of prayer and love!

Song Description

This song is part of an album being recorded in Nashville currently. The album entitled "Country's Kicking is a collection of songs co-written or inspired by Sheri Hodges. Sheri unexpectedly passed away last year. Sheri and Steve where together for 24 years and during that time they wrote several songs together and Sheri inspired many songs that Steve has written. Upon Sheri's passing Steve along with their son Dan Hodges decided to take the songs to Nashville and have them recorded right in Sheri's honor. Amazingly they were able to have them recorded with some of the world's best award-winning musicians who offered up amazing performances!

Lyrics

So I Can Love Her
Lyric & music By
Steve Hodges
I never could have seen the pain that lye ahead of me
How could something so simple go so wrong
I never will forget that day all the pain and agony
as I lye a cold scary feeling of uncertainty
but when I opened up my eyes you were standing by
my side
Now I know I'm not alone you were with me all along
Holding my hand telling me it would be alright
And I had to make it home I couldn't leave you there
alone and I prayed to the lord please give me more
time, So I can love her
I was blessed that day when the lord let me stay
I'm trying not to take my life for grantent
cause when I opened up my eyes you were standing by
my side
(3x)Now I know I'm not alone you were with me all along
Holding my hand telling me it would be alright
And I had to make it home I couldn't leave you there
alone and I prayed to the lord please give me more
time, So I can love her
(last)Now I know I'm not alone you were with me all along
Holding my hand telling me it would be alright
And I had to make it home I couldn't leave you there
alone and I 'm thanking the lord for giving me more
time, So I can love her

A big, sprawling country-rock ballad where the singer pleads for a chance at love. Reminds me of late '80s/early '90s country radio when rock was coming in to the genre.

This is a heartfelt song of second chances. The vocal delivery comes across as honest and passionate. The very full, expert instrumentation is nicely done. Very full sound and lovely mix.

Great song, serious topic. Based on true story?

Nice Country Ditty! Like The steel guitar, fiddle

-The players are very good and the production quality just fine. Nicely done!
-There is nice contrast with the musical arrangement and vocal melody between the song sections.
-Lots to like! Congrats!

Nice personal Country ballad, well performed, good choice of instrumentation!!

Instrumentals were excellent..over all music was good...lyrics are good and the singer sung it good..over all a very good song.

Really great song...voice was clear... background music fit the country feel of the song... story line was interesting... vibe was of someone coming from the brink... maybe ill?and made it?....great job...
