Song Description

Melancholy overtakes a young woman, nick-named "Anaconda", as she returns home after an exciting vacation in Rio de Janeiro, Her liberating experience there has left her questioning her life, and how she will spend the rest of her precious time.

Story Behind the Song

I wrote this totally fictiitious song as an experiment to go outside my typical genre and style. I was inspired by a TAXI request for Latin Pop songs, in a range of styles that included "The Girl from Ipanema" to Sade. It took on a rock feel as we recorded it to be included on my blues / r&b / swamp pop record, "Vooedoo Dream".

Lyrics

She's going home aboard a 747,
Her carry-on filled up with souvenirs.
Going home from her holiday in heaven,
She could have danced there for a thousand years.

With feathers in her hair; glitter everywhere,
Intoxicating Brazilian heirs.
Wringing the life out of every samba,
Queen of the Carnaval, Anaconda.

Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro is calling your soul.
Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro won't let you go.

She met a couple of latin ladies drinking daquiri
Doubles, at Hotel Panama.
Made up like fairies with lips red as cherries,
They stayed up in a seven day menage a trois.

With feathers in their hair; glitter everywhere,
Intoxicating 'Brazillionaires'.
Wringing the life out of every samba,
Queen of the Carnaval, Anaconda.

Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro is calling your soul.
Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro won't let you go.

There's no forever. Nothing lasts. Time's an assassin. Live fast.
Nobody knows if or when we'll have this chance again.

Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro is calling your soul.
Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro won't let you go.

Anaconda, she's on a 747,
Wishing she'd never boarded the plane.
Going home from her holiday in heaven,
She'd give up everything for one more day . . .

With feathers in her hair; glitter everywhere,
She's flying high on Brazilian air.
Bringing to mind each and every samba,
Trying to hold on, Anaconda.

Carnaval in Rio, Anaconda, Rio de Janeiro, whoa.oh-oh.
No forever and nothing lasts. Time's an assassin. Live fast.
Whoa -oh, oh, oh yeah Rio de Janeiro is calling your soul.
Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro, Riode Janeiro won't let you go
