Song Description

Aggressive chopping piano minor chords introduces this piece in a slower tempo. After calming down, the piano begins a sweet and sad melody in 3/4 time. Then a biting yet sweet violin plays joins the piano plying the main theme. The piano develops with a quarter note arpeggio pattern while playing the theme accentuate with a base drum. The theme rests as the arpeggio continues which is bolstered with a solo English horn. A second theme is then introduced by an Oboe section with the same arpeggio. The second theme ends and snare drums now perpetuate an underlying rhythm. When the first theme returns it is more developed and the woodwind ensemble joins in force. Once repeated, the entire string ensemble takes it. It then increases in pitch as it develops. Percussion is added to further the rhythm. This developing theme crescendos like an evil or sinister dance. When it ends a third theme is gently introduced by the woodwinds. This is a descending theme in the lower registers giving the listener the feeling of losing hope or despair. Brass instruments repeat the third descending theme along with aggressive piano chords and timpani percussion. The main theme returns much stronger and developed and repeats stronger with timpani and brass. The theme ends and the third descending theme of despair returns accentuated by string staccatos. Finally, solo violin woodwind and solo brass play the chords of this third dismal theme at half the tempo signaling that the dark party's over.
