Story Behind the Song

What if it slipped Santa's mind that it was Christmas??!!

Broadjam Top 10 Lists this song is on:
Top 10 ListRank

Went to bed Christmas Eve, wondered what he'd bring Hoped for big surprises tied up with coloured string
But when I went downstairs on Christmas morn
It was as the night before
Empty stockings on the mantle shelf
No presents on the floor

So I turned on the morning news to see what had occurred
They'd just began the interview and this is what I heard

I forgot that it was Christmas and the elves are still in bed
Won't you ask the boys and girls to have Easter eggs instead
I'm still in my pyjamas and Rudolph's not been fed
I forgot that it was Christmas that's what Santa said

Went to church, the preacher said it's really for the best This should be a time for love, consider it a test
And though I knew what he said was true
It couldn't hide the fact
There were empty stockings on the mantle shelf
No presents to unpack

So I turned on the lunchtime news to see what Santa planned
They'd just begun the interview he said they'd have to understand

So much to remember
So many things to do
So much to consider
Before I get to you
You'll back in years to come
And it'll raise a laugh
You'll realise it's not my fault
I'm simply understaffed
