Song Description

A gold-digging group expedition leaves one half of a greedy couple wounded and stranded. He feels betrayed by his lover until he realizes she was not part of the double-cross after all. In fact, he realizes, she had been secretly trying to communicate to him via radio. His supicions are soon mitigated when she rescues him. Both leave empty-handed except for a stronger bond of Love.

Story Behind the Song

This song started back in 1994 or 1995 and was passed on from DAW to DAW, even employing real tape pre-delay for the choruses. Finally completed and mixed in 2010. Mastered by Joe Lambert at JLM.

Lyrics

It's a cry of defeat
Leg still aching from that push out the cargo door
was it mission complete
Double crossed and left for dead on the canyon floor

Still won't believe that she set up and sold me
like a pawn in his final bow
those cryptic lines over dinner, she told me
seem more like a warning now

If you look up to a silent sky
keep love and your spirit high
The answer may not come to you in words
know that this love is a two-way street
and the circuit will be complete
remember you are seen and you are heard

It's a dangerous game
desperate lovers join the race for an easy prize
like moths to a flame
drawn in deeper 'til the greed brings our own demise

Her turn to watch from the radio tower
with the rest of us down below
digging for gold, checking back every hour
As to which way our fortunes go

If you look up to a silent sky
keep love and your spirit high
The answer may not come to you in words
know that this love is a two-way street
and the circuit will be complete
remember you are seen and you are heard

She must have known they were plotting to leave her
with no share of the gold they'd found
she tracked me down with a hidden receiver
and a truck that was homeward bound
