"The Persistence of Memory" is the title of the famous Dali painting with melting clocks. The song had the working title of "Yet Unnamed" before the band's drummer said "the song reminds me of that Dali painting with the melting clocks". The new title fits uncannily perfect.

Moody and nostalgic, The Persistence of Memory is about wanting to bring back old times. At the climactic finale, the singer realizes nostalgia has created idealized memories that could never come back as they never happened that way in the first place.
