Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song while on tour through the US. While in New York, whenever I told anyone that I was going back to LA taking I-80, they said "when you're driving though Kansas, the plain go on forever." As I was driving through Kansas the line "the plains go on forever" sang out to me, so I wrote the song as I drove to Utah. It's autobiographical and deeply felt.
Song Description
This is a sensitive, moving, insightful love ballade about a country singer driving cross country and trying to figure out what is going wrong and right with the relationship she left at home. Talks about driving through Kansas from Los Angeles to Houstin, the Chesepeek, Battle Creek, Ohio and Denver, and not understanding why because her biggest fan is at home.

Lyrics
I left to go and find myself
we knew that something's wrong
by the rage that burns inside of me
that I temper with my songs
I've been twice across this country now
and I still don't understand
just why I seem to need applause to find out were I am
And I only know I love you
and I need you by my side
And the plains go on forever
'neath the dark and cloudy Kansas Skies
While driving on to Houston
it was clear and I could see
that the conflicts I hide deep inside
aren't due to you and me
And from the Chesapeake to Battle Creek
to the farms of Ohio
everywhere I went I found
this pain inside me goes
And I only know I love you
and I need you by my side
And the plains go on forever
'neath the dark and cloudy Kansas Skies
Yeah, there's times when we just can't agree
and we don't see eye to eye
but that's not what I'll be thinking of
when I dream of you tonight
But it feels as though I'll never know
though I try to understand
why I need to travel far and wide
when you're my biggest fan
And I only know I love you
and I need you by my side
And the plains go on forever
'neath the dark and cloudy
Oh, I only know I love you
and I need you by my side
three-hundred miles from Denver
'neath the dark and cloudy Kansas Skies
