Story Behind The Song
I received an email from my friend Jane asking me to write a song called "What Color Is Spirit." I wrote back and said that while I thought it was a great idea for a song title, I couldn't possibly write it. The subject felt beyond my ability to express it.
Just then, my fingers typed: "What color is spirit? The same color as air. It's the color of loving when all God's children share."
Hmm, I thought, maybe I CAN write this song! And minutes later, it was finished.
Song Description
Originally written by request to help unify a multi-racial group of congregations, it reminds us that we're all made of the same sacred stuff. "All it takes is faith and patience, and a heart that is willing to feel love."

Lyrics
WHAT COLOR IS SPIRIT?
What color is spirit?
The same color as air -
It's the color of loving
When all God's children share.
What color is spirit?
It's the color of day -
It's the light of the morning
It's the love when you pray.
All it takes is faith and patience
And a heart that is willing to feel love.
What color is spirit?
It's the color of light
Shining deeply within you
Through the dark of the night.
What color is spirit?
Water's that color, too.
It's the color of me and
It's the color of you.
All it takes is faith and patience
And a heart that is willing to feel love.
What color is spirit?
The same color as air -
It's the color of loving
When all God's children share.
