Tu sei bella Aci Catena - T Salvatori C Salvatori

Story Behind The Song

There was one wonderful Italian who even got in his car to lead the way for us to follow him or we never would have found the restaurant for dinner that night! The smartest of all direction-givers though was a woman in a small town called Aci Catena; summoned by her husband to help us. Well, she came out her front door (which was about one yard away from the street) in a bright pink bathrobe, largely pregnant; with kids hanging on her from all sides. She came to the car window and calmly and simply told Dad to proceed about four streets straight ahead and when we got there...to stop again and ask someone else! Even Dad could follow that plan! Anyway, one thing led to another and with nothing but time on our hands out there...guitar in hand and an Italian crooner who fancies himself Mario Lanza in the vicinity, music and lyrics were written to document this wonderful Sicilian phenomenon.

Song Description

Doing this always seemed to attract the attention of many Italians to come over and offer their opinion about the best way for us to go. They'd point in different directions, shrug their shoulders, wave their arms and ultimately start arguments amongst themselves. Go left...go right...go up...go down...but the directions always included a Church as one of the points along the way for some divine reason; perhaps so we could stop and pray for directions to get to our destination. Anyway, when all was said and done, we would still see the assembled group of Italians arguing in our rear view mirror even after we'd pull away.
