In The Snow
words & music by Roger Salloom

We wandered through the streets of Worcester looking for respect, but we couldn?t find much anywhere in 1966.
So we made up our own world and invited only friends...the
special ones that we could trust. The rest would get neglect.

Life was clear and simple then though at times it did whirl.
We were buddies ?til the end there was no room for the girls.
Ginsburg, Kerouac, Camus and red red wine, Christians, Jews and music. Saturday night was a party time.

Oh oh oh it was snowing.

The ice was clinged to every branch. The trees were chandeliers.
Winter had its firm grasp. We were filled with cheer.
Running through the backyards the trees they seemed to glow.
The street lights burned defiantly. We ran on crusted snow.

We ran up the three decker to reach the painter?s flat.
Mad Jack was painting madly in a bathrobe and a hat.
There was no heat, we were all quite cold,
So we drank some more red wine.
Then we dashed out to dance in the snow in Dec. of ?65.

Jack leaned out the window and said he?d be right down.
Then he jumped from that window three flights to the ground.
He did not die and he did not paint very much after that.
Three flights to the ground in a bathrobe and a hat.
Three flights to the ground in a bathrobe and a hat.

Oh oh oh it was snowing
oh oh oh wintertime
Now I don?t need to tell you what you already know
That we loved each other in the snow.

My oldest brother went off to the Navy.
He never did come back.
I still write to him, but he never writes me back.

Sorry to bring him up but I can?t get him off my mind.
He meant so much to me in Dec. of ?65.

Oh oh oh it was snowing
oh oh oh wintertime
But I don?t need to tell you what you already know.
That we loved each other in the snow.

My brother and my young friends are now part of the past.
They?ll live in my remembrance and forever that will last.
I shall cry quietly from time to time,
But I refuse to give them up or the winter of ?65.

Oh oh oh it was snowing
oh oh oh wintertime
