If I Would Have Known

Story Behind The Song

The lyricist wrote the words for the song after her younger brother lost his life in a domestic violence incident. She believes that if her brother broke his silence about the reality of his situation, he might still be here. The song is meant to inspire others so they can get the help they need to live the life they deserve.

Lyrics

Feeling the warmth of the sun
I feel you here
Never too far away

Like a wave rolling up on the shore
You once were here
But not anymore

If I'd known your pain
If I'd known your fear
I'd have pulled you closer
Wiped away your tears

If I'd known your worries
I'd have pulled you near
Then you might still be here

If given a day
Just for an hour
I would have stretched my hand to you
Just for a moment
Maybe
You'd still be home
If I would have known

Blinded, not seeing the truth
You wished for a change
Didn't know what to do

Why couldn't you see
With your blinders on
If only you'd broken free

Your smile (your smile)
Now a memory
Your laugh, your laugh
Swept away in the wind

I wish you could have lived your life
And witnessed
What could have been

If given a day
Just for an hour
I would have stretched my hand to you
Just for a moment
Maybe
You'd still be home
If I would have known

Now an angel to those
Left behind
This hole will never be filled

Just for a moment
Maybe
You'd still be home
If I would have known

Wish you'd been given
The world you deserved
Wish you were with us still

If I could tell you one more thing
If I could draw you near
I would tell you you're not alone
And to give me
Give me your fear

If given a day
Just for an hour
I would have stretched my hand to you
Just for a moment
Maybe
You'd still be home
If I would have known

If I would have known
If I would have known
If I would have known
