Our World

Story Behind The Song

This is a Disney-style song introducing a young character starting her day. This is pitched for movie-TV/musical theater. The larger story's action would continue with music and dialogue segueing into the next scene - so no big ending on this version of the song. I am a veteran of the Broadway musical theatre scene and am interested in character songs and theater/film songs, as well as writing for pop, country, rock, and SYNC.

Song Description

Picture a mountain countryside with the pink of dawn wiping along the distant ridge lines. The singer starts her daily regimen, taking in the sights and sounds of the dawn, and noting the awakening of the nearby town.

Lyrics

vs1
The dawn chorus greets the day
Pink sets the ridge on fire
Blowing clouds make their way
The creatures of the night retire

pre-ch1
Quietly chores are begun anew
Folks in the valley stir
Diamonds alight in the morning dew
Dream memories start to blur

ch1
Our world has woken
The wind whispers songs
Of the day to come
In our world

vs2
Bundled up, I make my way
To vistas I admire
Muddy boots and hair astray
The country look of a squire

pre-ch2
Gently the path winds down the hill
The mountains come into view
My breath leaves a cloud in the morning chill
Rising up to a royal blue

ch2
Our world has woken
The wind whispers songs
Of the day to come...

bridge
I feel my body
Join the earth as one
I flow on the journey
In the warming of the sun

ch3
Our world has woken
The wind whispers songs
Of the day to come
In our world

I absolutely LOVE this song! It enchanted me from the intro on. Flawless vocal. Poetic lyrics blended with a beautiful morning melody that just totally suits the whole production. Instrumentation was perfect! Word pictures extremely effective and easy to visualize. Not just for children! This song is equally effective for adults. Bravisimo! My favorite lyric: Gently the path winds down the hill
The mountains come into view
My breath leaves a cloud in the morning chill
Rising up to a royal blue

That is GREAT lyric writing!
