Story Behind the Song

This is a sort of indie folk song (or alternative folk). The heart of it is me singing and playing acoustic guitar (Takamine GS-330). The Electric guitar drops in and out, substituting for vocal harmonies. As a solo acoustic song, it's straight folk. With the electric guitar it becomes something else ('78 Guild S-60 played through Fender Supersonic amp).

Lyrics

You Don't See Me Now
Words & Music by Timothy Walsh

You could sing this melody if you knew the words.
I'm just sitting here listening to the birds while you are
packing your bags and you are walking out the door.
I'm just at the window here--
You don't see me now.

Never mind our yesterdays--they're all said and done.
I love the moon but you always loved the sun.
The night world isn't you.
You are just a creature of the day and we are through--
You don't see me now.

CHORUS: Climbing the stairway up to our lonely bed.
I can feel the trees around me but you...you are in my head.

Now I hear you start the car and you drive away.
I guess there really was...nothing else to say.
I feel so tongue-tied now--
how could I explain to you the day beneath the day?
You don't see me now.

Some days in this universe I feel so all alone.
But looking at the moon, I take a picture with my phone,
message it to you, tell you that I found someone finally
who'll be true--
You don't see me now.

CHORUS: Climbing the stairway up to our lonely bed.
I can feel the trees around me but you...you are in my head.

Moonlight in the cedars whispers in the breeze.
I listen to the leaves telling me to please walk out by the oaks,
past the willows where there's a lot of greenwood folks--
They can see me now.
