Story Behind The Song
I wrote this for my father while he was battling lung cancer. He listened to it quite often before he passed in March of 2006. I miss him.
Song Description
Maybe not the best production value, but this song was recorded in one take. The emotion is genuine. The song hit me like a thunderbolt. It poured out in minutes. I gave it a chance to record that way. It's smacks of the emotion I hoped for, so I didn't f

Lyrics
To A Father, From a Son
I can hardly recall
My first date with alcohol
But I remember you stayed up to catch me
You said, "Was there a girl ?"
And I said that there was
And you said that was good, "Now go ahead and get some sleep"
So, thank you to a father from a son
It's been good dad, it's been sad, it's been fun
Half the songs that I know
And the books, films, and t.v. shows
Was my livingroom education
And even when we were poor
Somehow you and mom would score
And you'd take us all on that
Summer adventure slash vacation
So, thank you to a father from a son
It's been good dad, it's been sad, it's been fun
So before we both go another day
I love you dad and I need to say thank you, thank you
For the times you said don't tell your mom
When you should have killed me, you stayed calm
Thank you, thank you
Now I know mom wants to hear her song
And I'll write hers soon, but this one belongs to you
So I can say dad...
Thank you to a father from a son
It's been good dad, it's been sad, it's been fun
It's been good dad, it's been sad, it's been...
