Lizards in the Sky

Story Behind The Song

I spend a lot of time thinking about space and aliens.

Song Description

So here on Earth, life just happened to evolve with us--mammals--becoming the dominant species at the top of the food chain. Cause we're so smart, and all. But that's just our planet. There's billions of other stars with planets orbiting them, and many of them most likely contain life. So imagine another planet galaxies away has reptiles as the dominant thing (in actuality I dunno if they'd even be reptiles--they'd probably be some weird life form that might not even be carbon based but whatever)... and well, as mammals, we tend to look at a reptile's face and think of it as menacing... some would even call them ugly. But that's just because we evolved alongside other mammals and we tend to find a mammal's facial structure to be eye-pleasing. Reptiles... not so much. But for a reptile person, it's probably the other way around, you know? They probably think we're hideous. So based on this ridiculous difference, this race of lizard people invade the mammal people's planet and want to blow them up without asking questions. As if there's an inherent instinct to fear or hate what is different. And that's just unfortunate. Because at the end of the day, we're all only made of stardust.

Lyrics

On a planet 60 million light years out
Lives a race of highly evolved reptiles
They found a planet of fellow life
And this is what they said of them

Look at those monkeys on the ground
One look should say they should be drowned
With their freaky eyes and hair and
The disgusting things they chew
Oh, hit the big red button, won't you?

On a planet hurdling through the Milky Way
Lives a race of highly evolved mammals
They saw the reptile ships above
And this is what they said of them

Look at those lizards in the sky
One look should tell you they should die
With their beady eyes and scales and
The disgusting things they spew
Oh, hit the big red button, won't you?

'Tis I, the cosmic ostrich of truth
I see you fight, but what is the use?
I've a new truth for you to deduce
Although we're different, we can all get along
So let's hold hands and sing us a song
We're all just stardust, we can all get along
(NO!)

Look at those monkeys on the ground
One look should say they should be drowned
With their freaky eyes and hair and
The repulsive way they walk
Oh, hit the big red button, quick before they try to talk

Look at those lizards in the sky
One look should tell you they should die
With their beady eyes and scales and
Their disgusting gangrene skin
So both sides hit their buttons, the end.
