Story Behind The Song
This idea actually stemmed from my own experience. For years, I put a lot of efforts into writing, playing, singing, promotion... all at once. Unfortunately, not being able to focus on only one of these duties resulted in failure in all. I decided to focus all of my energies into songwriting - to perfect this craft to its greatest potential and leave the "Artisit Label Signing" to the 16 year olds they're after. In addition, I expanded my writing into genres other than pop and rock, thus leading into Country. The character in the song is fictional, but his story is comparable to mine.

Lyrics
Switchin to Country
© Copyright 2003 Neil Ebanks
I wanted to be one of the Backstreet Boys
I wanted to be one the New Kids on the Block
I tried learning Spanish
So I could try out for Menudo
But all I learned was ?Pollo?
And baby, they don?t want no gringos
Chorus:
So I?m givin up Cuz I?ve been told
Ain?t no pop record deals for people this old
Now I?m checking out. I ain?t no fool.
They?re only signin? kids right out of high school
Now I?m figuring out that the Pop world doesn?t want me
So now I?m switchin? to country
Yeah I?m switchin? to country.
I got my brother, my friend, and three cousins
We called ourselves ?Miami ½ a dozen?
Went to the mall and got six outfits
That all looked exactly the same
We played the clubs, the pubs, and the college.
We had some fans and, man, did they love us.
Ten years later, the same old fans
And it?s getting pretty lame
Chorus:
Bridge:
no more hair gel and no more head bands and
no more dance routines and ... no more baggy pants
no more singing about teenage love
now it's steel guitars and violins and big old cowboy hats
redneck bars, electric bulls, and leather boots to match?
