Song Description

a California Country goes mental metal, song, slow swaggering verse with a few disturbing images, and hopeful, if somewhat sad sing along chorus - harmonies

Story Behind the Song

The song is about the "pay-to-play" scene on the Sunset Strip "The Sunset" in the 80's and 90's. The main character is an unknown male lead guitarist wanna-be rock star. The Sunset, is of course also The sun setting in the sky, for which view the westward facing street was aptly named.

Lyrics

DOWN ON THE SUNSET

Wearing his last pair of leather pants
Playing a borrowed guitar
Sunlight shines through a dirty window but he's waiting for the dark
He sits on a bad where he slept with love at the end of a knife
Didn't mean much to him that he had to give in
He gets to play tonight he's goin'

Down on the Sunset his name will rise
Before you look up to the stars you can see them on the marquis signs
Where beauty and youth passes the horizon burns to ashes
Goin' down, down on the Sunset

He takes the stage as his long hair flies
This boy came out on top
Fingers racing at a manic pace Don't you know he's a guitar god?
He stand on the edge in between Crazy and (almost) dead
and what's driving him on can't be said in a song
it's heavier than lead goin'

Down on the Sunset his name will rise
Before you look up to the stars
you can see them on the marquis signs
Where beauty and youth passes the horizon burns to ashes
Goin' down, down on the Sunset

Down on the Sunset his name will rise
Before you look up to the stars
you can see them on the marquis signs
Where beauty and youth passes the horizon burns to ashes
Goin' down, down on the Sunset
