Song DescriptionMrs. Kate uses alliteration to craft this lovely lullaby, coupled with a simple and memorable tune that will linger in your mind as you drift off to sleep. The brilliant arrangement is the creation of Scott Griffin (Captivating Keyboards) of Chicago, IL.
Story Behind the SongIt was the summer of 2013. Our family was vacationing in a rural campground in Indiana. All 5 grandkids were with us. It was my job to "wear them out" before bedtime so that they would sleep like a bump on a log. Down the pathways we wandered in the twilight. Tiny pinpricks of light bejeweled the bushes. Lightning Bug Lullaby was birthed with a one year old on my hip and a 3 year old holding my hand. The song "just came to me" as we walked and spotted the firelies in the bushes.

I guess this a song for children. It's certainly a very sweet number. It's professionally recorded, nicely played, very well sung. For what it is, it probably couldn't be done any better by anyone else. Did I hear a bit of "over the Rainbow" bridge in the melody? If intentional, that's a nice way to honor a great score that children love.

A very sweet lullaby with the children's vocals harmonizing well with the lead singer. It is on par with "Somewhere Over a Rainbow" sung in the movie "Wizard of Oz" with Judy Garland.

Lyrics
CHORUS: Lightning bug, firefly
Now it's time to close my eyes
Noiselessly, with nary a peep
You lull me to sleep
You're a twinkle in the twilight
You flash, then fly away
But when you land lightly on my hand
It's a kiss for the end of my day. SING CHORUS
You're a diamond on my finger
With a promise you can't keep
But I'll dream about my true love
As I'm drifting off to sleep. SING CHORUS
BRIDGE: If I catch you in a jar
And then I wish upon a star
When I send up my humble prayer
Will your light carry it up there?
SING CHORUS
You're a sparkle on my shoulder
In the dimming summer sky
And I'm dreaming of a gleaming
Mansion way up high.
SING CHORUS
