Song Description

A song about losing someone to the depths of depression - helplessly watching a relationship die from within.

Story Behind the Song

Being the only person in a relationship where the other is giving up on everything is crushingly lonely. I wrote this song about living with someone who slowly descended into depression and it is dedicated to those who stand by even when their loved ones are rejecting them.

Lyrics

Golden hues are shining through
And dancing on the canvas you hold
As the daylight reaches out to you
But you paint the day in shades of grey
And choose to leave a rainbow unused
You discard it like the joy in you

There's colour all around
But your world fades to grey
And the one that I adored
Is slipping away

It's like you've decided
Colourblind is suited to the future you see
I don't feel like I'm a part of you
Because you hesitate and make mistakes
And choose to blame your failure on me
I don't know what I'm supposed to do

I'm standing by your side, a million miles away
And though I'm shouting loud
You don't hear a word I say

Don't you care that I'm there?
You don't care
Oh but I do
Obadiah Blue

You've decided colourblind is suited to the future you see
Now it's pulling you away from me
And crushing all the life inside
Of everything you used to believe
Making what we had a mockery

I'm cradling the cracks in the pieces of our dreams
And though you have my heart
You're losing the heart of me

Don't you care that I'm there?
You don't care
Oh but I do
Obadiah Blue

In the middle of my heart
Is the love you gave to me
Somewhere way back in time
Now a distant memory
I am holding on in vain
To the man used to be

Don't you care that I'm there?
You don't care
Oh but I do
Obadiah Blue
