Story Behind The Song
On the way to a gig I saw some amazing cloud shapes in a stormy Colorado sky. One was a shark, another was a huge angel reclining that stretched for miles across the front range. I told Dave about them, and he told how his daughter Sammy had come up with this theory about people becoming clouds after they die. Soon after, Dave's good friend Barry died. We took a groove I had been working on for years and crafted it into a progression. Dave and Chuck stayed up til all hours putting the words all together, and Dave got in trouble for getting home so late.
Song Description
Where do people go when they die? They go up into the sky and become clouds. There they have the freedom to become all the things they wished to be in life but never did.

Lyrics
1) There beyond the clouds your mother's dream fulfilled, Can't you see her in the sky beyond the hill. Floating in a backdrop made of crystal blue. I can see the billows that became of you.
Pre-Ch: Secretly they wanted to be something other than the things that life had handed them. Now they're looking down at me through any shape they care to be the clouds will change again.
Ch: I see through the eyes of children as I gaze up at the laughing clouds. People I have known in my life never spoke their dreams out loud.
2) You were sad that childhood had just passed you by. Knowing when you left us you would learn to fly. Now I see your wings spread wide and freedom's yours. You've become an eagle on a magic course.
Pre-chorus
Chorus
Bridge: So many people. You know they've got a place to go. So many millions of people. Don't waste your life before you go.
3) Little girl who wonders where the people go looks up to the sky and sees what they don't know. Barry always wanted to be strong and free. Now he's floating up for Sammy's eyes to see.
