Story Behind The Song
I have never been to the deep south, but recently listened to stories about the racism that still exists there. This song is about living in the context of a divided culture, and in particular one that has a history of mysterious cults and violent rituals. It's also a song about being in a place, but not of that place.
Song Description
I used a non-traditional structure for this song: verse, instrumental bridge, verse. But it's a song entirely devoted to creating a feeling or a mood that's a little mysterious and dark. It uses only piano, cello and electric guitar, and gives the listener room to build their own picture of the deep south - present or past.

Lyrics
Down in Alabama, where the crawfish are so sweet
Down in Alabama, where they dance out in the street
They say: Girl, won't you be one of us? Oh girl, inside this trust.
