Story Behind The Song

"Too Soon To Know" is considered by many historians and The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as the very first R&B hit and changed the shape of American music. It was written by Deborah Chessler In the late 40s and became part of an unlikely partnership between a young Jewish woman and a dynamic black male vocal group called Sonny Til and the Orioles. Together they gave birth to a new genre of music that would ignite a generation, R&B!

Great potential for Broadway and would be a great screenplay. The educational value of the show is very intense. The show presents the incredible music but also reveals the racism and anti semitism of the times. Deborah Chessler wrote close to 10 songs for Sonny Til and the Orioles. She was also their manager. Deborah's mother Irene also helped with the business. So imagine two white Jewish women and five black men touring the east coast and the south from 1948 to 1956 together. It's an incredible story and the world premiere of this new musical was well received in Portland Oregon and was nominated for 8 musical theater awards. The PAMTA Award ceremony is on June 15th. We feel Max Gousse would be very interested in our project and could be a good fit to our team. We have the rights to the music and an agreement with Deborah's family the Reingolds. We also have obtained from DeSean Dooley over 4 hours of recordings his grandfather and the Orioles never heard or published. DeSean wants to form a new group to help promote his grandfather's music and is committed to playing the role of Sonny Til to the highest potential .
