Lyrics
Sweet Dandelion was a girl of the mountain
and she cooked and she sewed
and she growed like her mother before her.
She dreamed now and then of a handsome lover
who would come in the night
and tell her how much he adored her.
But the only one came was Jed from The Holler
and he couldn't seem to make her smile.
So she said, "I'm sorry but I made up my mind.
Guess I'll just wait for awhile."
"Sweet Dandelion, are you waiting to be mine?
Don't you know that I'll be coming' 'fore too long?
Sweet Dandelion, don't you worry and don't you pine,
just keep listening for the sound of love's sweet song."
Well the days grew long and the night grew chill
and Dandelion sat in her house on the hill
and she waited.
And the birds in the sky and the fish in the stream
knew that the love in her heart
was a part of the dream she created.
And she listened for the voice with the song of love,
but the melody never came.
And the sound of the wind made her dreams begin
when it seemed to call her name.
"Sweet Dandelion, I am lost in the pines
and I'm feelin' like a man without a friend.
Sweet Dandelion, don't be frightened and don't you be cryin',
don't you know we'll be together in the end."
Well, Dandelion left her sewin' and her cookin',
with a candle in her hand
she started out lookin' around her.
And Jed from The Holler, with his dog and his gun,
they was out for some Possum
and they was the ones as found her.
She was layin' in the trees, pretty as you please,
and the smile on her face was fine.
And the Owl and the Bat and the wild Bobcat
knew love had found Dandelion.
Sweet Dandelion, now you've left this life behind,
have you found the love you waited for so long?
When the wind's in the pines, and it sounds like someone sighin'
it's just Dandelion, singin' love's sweet song.
It's just Dandelion, singin' love's sweet song.
