This song made me want to record my own bass solo. While I hope I have constructive feedback for you, I really enjoyed this song. Having said that, I think not having a tenor bass made the lead in this song very muddy. New round wounds would have helped the sound but the real culprit is EQ and Mix. In my humble opinion, the bass, when playing the lead line, should have been eq'ed for the task. Bridge pickup only, boost in the upper mids, a little compression to keep the high and low more even in the mix and boosting the volume so we can hear that melody. The middle of the song show the talent of the bass player but it gets lost in the mud of the mix.
Crisp up that bass next time, we want to hear it. The rest of the instruments were well played and in the pocket. I can't help but smile when I hear a good organ with good rotary speaker. I'm not quite a fan yet but I look forward to becoming one.
